A little about my job:

I’m responsible for the operations of the Customer Assistance/Reservations Help Department, which is made up of several behind the scenes teams. 1.

What item is in your suitcase that you couldn’t travel without?

Must have’s in my pre-family travel included a camera, a book and a hazelnut chocolate bar. Traveling with my family, the list has grown to include a supply of hand wipes, picture books, juice boxes and a supply of “O’s”.

2.

What’s your most treasured travel souvenir?

A circular box carved from the wood of a cinnamon tree which I purchased in Vietnam and use to store tea leaves.

3.

What’s the most memorable dish you’ve eaten during your travels?

The day was hot and humid and I was tired and hungry after exploring the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza. We were awaiting the arrival of our delayed out-bound flight at the open-air airport. Since then, I began my quest to find another comparable tamale. I am still searching.

One more thing. I think that there are a lot of travel insurance web pages of trustworthy companies that let you enter your holiday details and get you the quotes. You can also purchase an international holiday insurance policy on the web by using your credit card. Everything you need to do is to enter the travel specifics and you can view the plans side-by-side. Merely find the package that suits your finances and needs after which it use your credit card to buy the item. Travel insurance online is a good way to take a look for a reliable company to get international travel cover. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

My husband and I cruised to Alaska several years ago. We are now trying the Hawiian cruise to celebrate our 40th anniversay (a year late!). However, we have no clue as to the type of clothing we need to wear on deck while sailing. We needed jackets going to Alaska. We are sailing on December 29. Will we simply need summer weight clothing?

    • Princess Cruises says... October 3, 2012 | 4:32pm

      Hi Sue,

Happy Anniversary! :) We look forward to welcoming you onboard.

We recommend packing to have the ability to dress in layers to be prepared for everything from sunny afternoons to chilly nights. To view more information on clothing recommendations and the average temperatures for our cruise destinations please visit:

We (4) are taking the transatlantic cruise on the Ruby Princess on Oct.6. We booked the cruise in 2 segments 12/18. Do we have to disembark and embark? What and where do we do this? We were hoping to take a morning shore excurison on Oct.19 (embarkation day). Will that be possible?

    • Princess Cruises says... October 3, 2011 | 4:01pm

      Hi Janet,

We look forward to welcoming you onboard! Yes, after completing your first cruise, you will need to disembark the ship and go through customs. You will be able to leave your belongings in your cabin. We are unable to give the amount of time this process will take. However, more information on this process will be given to you once you are onboard. Most of our excursions take place on October 18th, with the exception of one tour which takes place on October 19th, but this tour is only for passengers going to the airport and not returning back to the ship.

When did Princess pass the wheel chair service to special needs @sea? My wife & her mother have sailed w/ you at least once per year for quite sometime. The last was last FEB. 2011 to the carriban. Always with a wheel chair. This time at the last min. we were told that we must provide our own. I noticed that you recomended “special needs@sea” and I called them & put it on the credit card, Figuring you were just trying to hide a little extra charge like the Airlines do, what is next extra bag charge? Tonight I get a call from my wife the have an electric scutter not a wheel chair. Your staff told my wife that you have lots of wheel chairs that belong to Princiss but they cannot let my wife and her mom use them. MY Wife & her mom had a great time doing the Panama canel, the Mexican Rivera,& the Carabian now they are woried about how they will get to breakfist and out to their shore tour in the AM. It is Sat. PM no one will anser the phone. Every ansering mss. says call back Monday.

Ihave written to you before. thank you for the prompt reply. As before, we will be embarking on the bucket list, the Baltic cruise on June 26th. Reading up on Aarthus is very interesting. Can you also get day trips on land for the Old Town. I read that they arrange one day trips by coach for cruise passengers. Any info on this would be appreciated.
Also, what kind of wear should we be bringing.

    Thank you

    • Princess Cruises says... May 19, 2011 | 12:30pm

      Hi Sandy,

The particular tour that visits the old town is: Historic Aarhus Walking Tour (AAR-380). It’s a great tour that brings to you the oldest district, the Latin Quarter, and more! To view the excursions we offer in Aarthus please visit the Cruise Personalizer.

We will doing the Baltic Cruise with the Emerald Princess in late June. One of the stops is new,Aarhus, Denmark. Can you recommend which of the tours is the the best.

    Thanks,

    • Princess Cruises says... May 5, 2011 | 12:38pm

      Hi Sandy,

Thank you for choosing Princess for your Baltic cruise onboard the Emerald Princess! One of the most popular shore excursions booked by our passengers in Aarhus, Denmark is: Aarhus Cathedral, Den Gamle by Museum & City Drive (AAR-200). On our Cruise Personalizer the shore excursions can be filtered according to your interests (site seeing, activity/ adventure etc.). The Most Popular badge will identify those excursions most often picked by our sailed passengers. We look forward to welcoming you onboard!

I and my friend have just returned from the Beijing to Singapore cruise and are far from happy with the no response from Princess over my friends TWO lost pieces of luggage. My luggage came through okay but although all three pieces were together upon being left outside the cabin in the required manner, her two pieces managed to be lost between cabin and pickup point. The total disinterest Carnival have shown in tracing this missing luggage is to say highly disappointing. It would seem you have our money now so are no longer interested in keeping past passengers happy. There has been no response to emails and telephone calls also contain lack of interest. We have travelled on Sun Princess twice with no complaint whatsoever so obviously Carnival Australia are a better business organization. Are you willing to respond and/or do something to help in the matter of Mrs Dunkleys lost luggage. It’s not just a case of make a claim against the travel insurance she has; it is the loss of totally irreplaceable items amonsg the luggage.

    • Princess Cruises says... March 25, 2011 | 12:10pm

      Hi Rosalie,

We were able to locate Mrs. Dunkley’s booking and see that she has been in communication with our Customer Service Department. Our records show that after Mrs. Dunkley reported the missing luggage to our head office we contacted her the following day with good news. Thank you for your concern, but we would have to refer you to Mrs. Dunkley for the details regarding this situation.

I wanted to take the Saphire Princess cruistour DA4 on 5/19- I saw it listed in the brochure of april 2012 to may 2013 cruises and cruisetours that was with the press release that came out last week. Everything seems to be out there but the one I am looking for. when will it be posted or was there a misprint in the brochure? It seems like it does everything for tours but da4 for that cruise.

    • Princess Cruises says... March 25, 2011 | 12:44pm

      Hi Julie,

The DA4 cruisetour is no longer available on any of the Sapphire Princess 2012 Alaska voyages. The DA4 cruisetour is still available on the Island Princess and Diamond Princess. The DB4 cruisetour is available on the Sapphire Princess. We are very sorry for the misprint and confusion.

  31. Linda Wittman says... March 15, 2011 | 1:17pm

If necessary, how far ahead of April 1 is Princess likely to make a decision to change departure ports for the Ocean Princess? I believe she is the next of your ships to be coming into Osaka. We are scheduled to fly into Osaka a week ahead of time to sight see before starting that cruise. We leave 9 days from today. Assuming nothing else goes wrong in Japan, is she still leaving from Osaka? If something else does happen to close the port, what port would most likely become the departure point? If there is still a US advisory not to travel to Japan in 9 days, we would need to change our flight to somewhere else to catch the ship.

I know no one can predict what might happen, but we need to have a “plan B” in mind.

    Thank you,
    Linda

    • Princess Cruises says... March 16, 2011 | 2:38pm

      Hi Linda,

We understand your need for updates on the situation. We appreciate your patience as this is a very fluid situation and we are carefully reviewing all available information. We will contact impacted passengers should any itinerary changes be required. The Ocean Princess is still scheduled to depart from Osaka on April 1, 2011.

  32. Michael Piesse says... March 15, 2011 | 10:41am

    Hi,

I am booked (third Princess cruise) Beijing to Singapore (out of London) in November – to ensure a direct British Airways flight I made my own flight arrangements before things were finalised by yourselves – it now seems (not all that unexpectedly) that your Company will be using the same flights for the fly/cruise passengers – but cannot/will not offer me the ‘transfer’ package it provides between airport – hotel- airport etc?

Have to say that from a Customer ‘relations’ let alone a business point of view I, as a disabled person of quite a good age, am not impressed and will, on this showing, look elsewhere in future……..

    • Princess Cruises says... March 16, 2011 | 11:21am

      Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, we are unable to add transfers to your booking due to the type of cruise only package that has been booked. If you would like to discuss this further please contact our UK office at: 0845 075 0031

  33. Jeanette Medway says... March 9, 2011 | 2:06pm

hello Maria – as per my comments on 5th March and your reply on the 7th – what we really need to know is when will Princess reassess the situation in Egypy – I feel they were very hasty in cancelling the ports of Port Said and Alexandria as things have not settled down – the reason we need to have some idea of when the situation will be reassessed is that unfortunatley we may cancel with Princess which we dont have to do as we always cruise with Princess but other cruise lines are still going to these ports – as stated below we travel a long way from Australia and have all our airfares etc paid for so we have to make a decision soon to cancel with Princess and go with another cruise line, as said previously something we dont really want to do. thanks

    • Princess Cruises says... March 10, 2011 | 12:32pm

      Hi Jeanette,

We understand your concern and we would like to reassure you that we continue to monitor the situation in Egypt with relevant authorities. We are aware that our passengers are working within time constraints and are eager for new information. If there are any further updates we will be sure to communicate them to our passengers.

    • Jeanette Medway says... March 12, 2011 | 11:05pm

But when are Princess reassesing the situation? – that is what we need to know – all tour operators are now returning to Egypt – how long will it be before Princess make a decision if they are going to return to the original itinerary will it be in say a months time or later- that is what we need to know – we are now put in the situation where we might have to cancel with Princess and go with another cruise line something we really dont want to do

    • Princess Cruises says... March 15, 2011 | 2:25pm

We’ve asked someone in our Australia office to contact you and respond personally to your questions.

I know there are 2-3 formal nights . How many ‘theme’ nights are there and what will they be?
We like to prepare for these fun nights even before the cruise!
Who will be the cruise director?

    Thanks a lot. Don

    • Princess Cruises says... March 9, 2011 | 9:38am

      Hi Don,

You are correct- there will be 3 formal nights during your cruise. Our themed nights are planned by the onboard personnel, and unfortunately because of this we do not have a set schedule of the possible themed nights onboard. Mark Turner is currently scheduled to be the Cruise Director on your cruise. We look forward to welcoming you onboard!

I posted the following on “I<3 cruises" for their "What would ruin your cruise" post:
On our re-positioning cruise to Europe on Princess, the toilets malfunctioned/stopped working several times, I got sick from the salad bar twice and once from under-cooked/heated snow crab legs. My VHS camcorder that I had gotten repaired …before the cruise didn't record ANY footage while we were in Paris. A couple WILLINGLY followed us in London, England, EVEN after we told them where we were going and why. They spent the rest of the cruise telling everyone that we ruined their visit and forced them to go with us (LIARS!). We told them they didn't have to go with us and could leave AT ANY TIME (which they did)! My wife lost a 20 pound British bill/note (worth about $35 USD). We DID win approximately $1400 total during the cruise at the bingo games! All in all it was a great cruise in spite of these occurrences.
Even with all that, we still would love to go on another cruise (Hawaii, Europe, Alaska, Pacific/Tahiti, etc.)!

    • Princess Cruises says... March 7, 2011 | 12:31pm

      Hi James,

We are very sorry for the unfortunate situations which occurred during your Europe cruise, but are happy to hear that you had good experiences during your cruise as well. If you would like to research any of the cruises you mentioned being interested in please visit:

7 of us are booked on the Pacific Princess leaving 16th September – we have received notification that the ports of Alexandria and Port Said have been cancelled and replaced with a trip to Istanbul and one day extra at sea. This is my fourth cruise with Princess and all of us are not happy that the itinerary has been changed. When will Princess reassess the situation – I am told most tour operators are reassessing travel to Egypt at the end of March – will Princess being doing the same and reinstate the original cruise as things have settled down in Egypt. Princess need to realise that not just Americans travel with them – we have airfares and accommodation booked for our trip from Australia which is non refundable – the main reason for this cruise was to see the pyramids etc. and now this has been put on hold – we are not very happy with the revised cruise ports, also the Sydney customer service centre leaves a lot to be desired – all of us agree they are pretty hopeless when you ask them for any information so hopefully Princess Head Office will give us an answer – we love cruising with Princess but are very unhappy that they rushed in very quickly and changed the itinerary

    • Princess Cruises says... March 7, 2011 | 1:17pm

      Hello Jeanette,

We are sorry for your disappointment and thank you for your feedback. The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our priority. We are always monitoring travel warnings and our shoreside Security Department works with US and local government officials in the event of any concerns. We have not reinstated the port of call in Egypt at this time. If there are any changes our passengers will be advised.

I have had the same problem in Australia. I wanted to cruise from Vancouver and did not care where to. I had a lot of trouble finding suitable cruises. A friend who has cruised from Vancouver said that the cost was more for Australians than for Americans. Is this true and if so why? I am also a Princess fan.

It seems Carnival have leaned on their US and Canadian Travel agents. and prohibited them from taking bookings from Australians New Zealanders and on some of their lines, Brits.
At the same time in Australia they raised the prices for bookings made through local travel agents. I rang to book looking at their website and every time I was told the advertised price was now wrong.some had nearly doubled. The price in US had not.

Mexican Tamele … sounds wonderful! I’ve just checked with my Mexican Waitress, Daniella, onboard The Sea Princess, now cruising in the Caribbean and she says they are made from maize and not wheat, so perfect for a wheat-free diet like mine. Any chance of adding them to the onboard menu please? Sounds as if they would be good for everyone and not just gluten intolerant cruisers.

    • Carmellia says... March 3, 2011 | 5:46pm

I am reading here about the tamales being gluten free and yes, to add more gluten free items to the menu would be awesome! When we cruise, there are lots of items to chose from and the Wait Staff in Traditional Dining are great with my Gluten intolerance! BUT, at the Horizon Court it is always a guessing game and yes, items we dont think would contain Gluten, usually do! I mostly miss the Italian night as I cannot have the pastas. Next cruise I am going to bring a package of Gluten Free pasta and I know they work hard, but am going to ask if they would cook it for me on Italian night so I can enjoy the delicious sauces as well!
