5 Revealing Questions

John Chernesky

Director of Onboard Revenue and Business Development

Number of Years with Princess:

18 years, 9 months, 12 days…but who’s counting?

Number of Countries Visited:

24

Hometown:

Valencia, CA

A little about my job:

I work in our Fleet Operations Department and help run a number of our revenue divisions onboard including our casinos and Lotus Spas.

1.

What item is in your suitcase that you couldn’t travel without?

A sound machine to help me sleep!

2.

What’s your most treasured travel souvenir?

Photographs of the various places we’ve been, both above and below the water. If I had to pick just one, it would be a close up shot of the eye of a 50-foot whale shark as it swam by me off Darwin Island in Galapagos. What a thrill.

3.

What’s the most memorable dish you’ve eaten during your travels?

This is a tough one. Was it the tuna sashimi in Palau, Micronesia…or the pasta fagioli at the Al Gelso Hotel in Monfalcone, Italy…or perhaps the bistecca alla fiorentina at the original Sabatini’s Restaurant in Florence on the night I proposed to my wife…or maybe the steak au poivre on Tahitian Princess as we sailed through the paradise of French Polynesia? All worthy dishes, but I’ll have to go with the incredible dish of Paella made especially for our table by Executive Chef extraordinaire Antonio Cereda the night before arriving into Barcelona. It was ridiculously good.

4.

What’s your travel motto?

Have fun and make the most of it. If you travel with the right attitude and the right people, you can have fun no matter what the weather or circumstances. And don’t forget to tip well.

5.

Where haven’t you been that’s on your travel bucket list?

Other than Bergen County, New Jersey? I’d have to say an African Safari followed by cage diving with great white sharks off the coast of South Africa.

Having recently returned from the aborted “Cherry Blossom Tour” on “Sun Princess – Boo Hoo. I must say Princess coped admirably, but sadly for a few of us disaster struck! We were advised from the Purser that we could visit Schenzen from Hong Kong, thus using our Visa to enter China. However at 7.30am on the morning of my visit to Shanghai was told by Chinese Immigration that I “did not have a Visa”! Having paid Single Supplement and left Australia wanting to visit Shanghai I was devastated. Missed 2 Days in Shanghai and 2 days in Beijing. This ruined my 42 days of cruising. I kept hoping a staffer could have made the trip to the Embasy in Shanghai and perhaps obtained a temporary visa. In my opinion we received no sympathy or assistance from Princess. Joan Murday.

The last 2 years we had to cancel our Cruise to Alaska. I was in the hospital both times. Well, I am NOT going to miss our trip to Alaska, leaving on the 9th of June….. All I have been thinking about lately is having breakfast on “our” balcony…… Here we come Sea Princess….

A great Legacy of travel John, one that will certainly be carried on by your two growing boys. Plan a trip to Hong Kong, then let me know you’ve arrived so we can visit!

I sailed but once with Princess on the Crown Princess. The pastry chefs were wonderfully creative. We sailed for Valentine’s Day. I’ve posted a couple of the pictures…the cakes are really something of a marvel. And yes, Princess treat their guests like royalty.
